A South by Southwest Festival Preview

The South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival is now in it’s fouth
year. It was designed to provide a meeting space for film and videomakers
and to offer hands-on pratical information on the art and craft of working in
the independent aspect of motion medium. It will be running from the 7th-15th
of March in Austin, Texas where panel discussions will take place, cards will
be traded, films will be walked in and out of, and an array of characters
from within the cast of the independent film community will gather.
Schedueled to attend are Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith, John Pierson,
George Huang and Austin based filmmaker Richard Linklater.
This years Documentary Competition selections will include Don Howard’s
“Letter From Waco“, Steven Lipscomb’s “Battle for the Minds“,
and Michael Uys & Lexy Lovell’s Sundance selection “Riding the Rails“.
The Documentary Special Screening selections will vary. Several ethnically
diverse pieces including Chinese, French, British, Irish, Japanese, Kiwi, and
Polish cinema will appear along with a selection of American directors. A
one hundred year cinematic retrospective directed by Martin Scorcesse will be
shown, with the director as host. It will be sponsored by the Austin Film
Selected for this years festival in the Narrative Feature Special Screening
section will be Kevin Smith’s “Chasing Amy“, Steven Soderbergh’s “Schizopolis“,
and Greg Araki’s “Nowhere” among others.
