New York Women's Film Festival Set For Late May
Details have been announced for a new film festival, devoted
to showcasing the work of female filmmakers. Suzanne Meyers, Sarah
Eaton, Sarah Vogel, and Jane Williams founded the fest last year, and
seek to “encourage and celebrate the growing presence of women
filmmakers” through an annual event.
The four day festival, set for May 29 – June 1, 1997, will feature
narrative and documentary films, as well as shorts, videos and
screenplay readings. Among the women set to serve as the festival’s
selection committee are Laurie Anderson, Kim Gordon and Lisa Krueger.
The inaugural festival is sponsored by ALLURE Magazine, Max Factor, New Line Cinema, MovieFone, the Independent Film Channel and the Sundance Channel.
