First Hollywood Film Fest Announces Lineup; 12 Of 40 Are Premieres
by Eugene Hernandez/indieWIRE
On the heels of lineup announcements last week by the Hamptons International Film Festival and the AFI
Los Angeles International Film Festival, the Hollywood Film Festival revealed the roster for its inaugural event.
Of the 40 films that will be screened October 14-18, twelve are World or U.S. premieres. Each of the films to be
screened is a finalist for the Film Discovery Award, an honor to be determined by a committee of Hollywood industry
Festival films were selected from the 400 entries received and screened by a four-person in-house committee, which
included festival Executive Director, Carlos de Abreu. Commenting on the challenges in programming a lineup during
a season brimming with film festivals, de Abreu told indieWIRE that he only butted heads with other festival
programmers over a handful of films, downplaying any competition and adding that he created the festival “to
discover emerging talent.”
The festival kicks off with the world premiere of Francis Delia’s “The Time Of Her Time,” based on a novel
by Norman Mailer and closes with a lifetime achievement award to Kirk Douglas. Feature films set to premiere are:
“Allie & Me” (U.S. Premiere) directed by Michael Rymer; “Always Say Goodbye” (World Premiere),
written and directed by Joshua Beckett; “Always Something Better” (U.S. Premiere), written and directed by
Steve Kinsella; “Brokers” (World Premiere), directed by Allie Dvorin and David Goldberg; “Cadillac“
(World Premiere), directed by Andrew Frank; “Men” (U.S. Premiere), directed by Zoe Clarke-Williams; “My
Brother’s War” (World Premiere), directed by James Brolin; “The Sleepless” (World Premiere), written and
directed by Domonic Paris; “When Its Over” (World Premiere), written and directed by Richard Mancuso; and
“Wildly Available” (World Premiere) written and directed by Michael Nolin.
The festival, which will additionally screen 15 short films, three documentaries, and two animated films, will also
include appearances by a host of Hollywood professionals who will participate in panel discussions and seminars.
