October Films and Sean Penn’s production company Clyde is Hungry have
signed a first look deal covering Clyde’s productions, which have
included films such as the Penn-directed “Indian Runner” and “The
Crossing Guard.” In addition, Clyde produced the Oliver Stone-directed
“U-Turn” and the Nick Cassavetes “She’s So Lovely,” both of which
starred Penn. Films in the works at Clyde include a film based on
William Faulkner’s “As I Lay Dying“; “Serial Lover,” a remake of a
French film with Phoenix Films.
In another October Films deal, Elton John has signed a deal to compose
the score for Albert Brooks’ new film, “The Muse.” In addition, John and
his longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin will compose the title track.
John recently formed a film production company, Rocket Pictures, with
David Furnish. The score will be John’s first full-length score since
1971’s “Friends.” “The Muse” stars Brooks, along with Sharon Stone, Jeff
Bridges and Andie MacDowell, and is set for release in 1999. Fixtures of
the film world playing cameos in the film include Martin Scorsese, James
Cameron and Rob Reiner.
