On the first weekend of June at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, the Writers Guild Foundation sponsored its second edition of the biannual “Words into Pictures: The Film and Television Forum.” A three-day series of 35 seminars, “Words into Pictures” showcased over 200 entertainment writers, directors, producers, and studio executives, all talking about their craft.
Although primarily an event geared towards major movie studio professionals, the organizers did tuck in one seminar devoted to independent film, late in the morning on the first day. “The Indy 500: Writing Independent Film” enlisted indie stalwart and Sundance Film Festival co-director Geoffrey Gilmore to moderate the 90-minute dialogue.
