>> OUTFEST 2000 Sets Opening and Closing Films
(indieWIRE/6.6.00) — Each year a handful of gay and lesbian interest movies
make the circuit to screen as the opening, closing and showcase films at gay
and lesbian film festivals around the country. Such is the case with two
movies set to bookend the upcoming OUTFEST, the 18th Los Angeles Gay and
Lesbian Film Festival.
Kicking off OUTFEST 2000 on July 6th is Lions Gate‘s upcoming documentary,
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye” (directed by Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey). Closing the event on July 17th is Greg Berlanti‘s “Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy,” which will be released by Sony Pictures Classics.
OUTFEST, which will screen more than 220 films in over 100 programs, will
announce its complete lineup later this month. The Festival is presented

>> Finalists Named for Gay & Lesbian Online Movie Awards
(indieWIRE/6.6.00) — In other gay and lesbian film news, PlanetOut and
IFILM have announced 25 finalists for the Queer Short Movie Awards.
Selected from 150 entries, the finalists will be available for viewing
online throughout the month of June, with voters selecting Audience Award
winners in five categories: drama, comedy, animation, experimental, and
Finalists are being screened on PlanetOut http://movieawards.planetout.com in RealVideo and QuickTime formats, with jury prize winners receiving cash prizes.
Judging the selections are actress/writer Guinevere Turner (“American
Psycho“), Sundance Film Festival, Outfest programmer Shari Frilot, and Strand Releasing co-president Marcus Hu. The jury will select a $10,000
Grand Prize winner and $1,000 First Prize winners in each of the five catagories.
Winners will be announced during a ceremony at OUTFEST 2000.
