ContentFilm On Board For David Gordon Green’s “Undertow”

On the heels of Friday’s opening of David Gordon Green’s Sundance award-winner “All the Real Girls,” ContentFilm has greenlit his new film, which has the working title of “Undertow.” The film will start production in and around Savannah, Georgia, in April.
The project will star Dermot Mulroney (“About Schmidt”) as a working father whose life becomes chaotic with the arrival of his brother, played by Josh Lucas (“Sweet Home Alabama”). Jamie Bell (“Billy Elliot”) stars as Mulroney’s eldest son and the role of the youngest son will be filled at open casting sessions to be held in New York and Georgia. The film is written by Green and Joe Conway, and like his “George Washington” and “Real Girls,” is set in the contemporary South. Lisa Muskat will produce the film (marking her third collaboration with Green), along with ContentFilm’s Ed Pressman and Terrence Malick. ContentFilm’s John Schmidt and Alessandro Camon will executive produce.
“Undertow” has been in development for more than four years at Sunflower Productions, which Content’s Pressman formed with famed director Malick. “Everyone at ContentFilm and Content International is pleased to be working with David Gordon Green, whose supreme talent, along with a terrific script, has attracted such a first-rate cast,” said Pressman and Schmidt in a prepared statement.
Green and Muskat are represented by attorney Jim Janowitz, and Janowitz and Phyllis Kaufman will serve as production counsel for “Undertow.” Green is also repped by Robert Newman of ICM and Lindsay Williams of The Gotham Group. The deal was negotiated with reps for Green and the actors by Sunflower’s Jon Katz and ContentFilm’s Michael Roban. Roban also oversaw the transfer of rights for “Undertow” from Sunflower to ContentFilm. Content International’s Jamie Carmichael will rep the film for overseas sales at the American Film Market, which opens today.
ContentFilm’s other recent productions include “The Guys,” to be released by Focus Features, and “The Cooler,” which Lions Gate acquired at Sundance 2003.
