Short Shorts to Host Cherry Blossomed Event at the Egyptian

The 2003 Short Shorts Film Festival will kick off the Los Angeles leg of its pan-Pacific event April 29th with a gala opening at the Egyptian Theatre a a Japanese cherry blossom-themed party. Two evenings will follow with short films from around the world including Japanese animator Koji Yamamura’s Academy Award nominated “Mt. Head.” Most of the films will be making their L.A. theater premieres.
Short Shorts began five years ago in Japan where the shorts format had rarely been seen, but the series now takes place in six Japanese cities and has reached audience of 75,000. For two years, the event has also traveled to Singapore. This year’s L.A. board of directors include Martin Scorsese, Roger Donaldson, Edward Burns, Colin Ferrell, Lions Gate CEO Tom Ortenberg, as well as co-founder Tetsuya Bessho and others.
“We are thrilled to be championed by so many supportive members,” said festival director Douglas Williams in a prepared statement. “The diversity of this year’s board and our exciting programming line up are making for a great year.”
