An introduction is in order...

I make short films with my brother Jeff under Back and Forth Films, which is named after a low budget super 8 short film we made a few years ago that has screened all over the place, including a one month gig on a giant outdoor video screen in Times Square. (For those interested, it can be viewed online at the Flicker Films website.)

Well, this is my first attempt at a blog and it’s great that the tech team at indieWIRE have set this up. I’m new to this and still somewhat perplexed as to how and why people would read blogs but I’m game and will see how this goes.

Here’s a not so brief intro…

I’ve been involved in independent film for several years. A lot of filmmakers and industry folks may recognize me from my stint at the Association of Independent Video & Filmmakers (AIVF), where I had the dutiful task of helping with programming and fielding filmmaker questions through their Information Services Desk. In my 3 years there I answered thousands of filmmaker questions, ranging from where to find a fiscal sponsor, how to get a distributor, or what a producer’s rep is to some not so typical stuff like a fax from a housewife in Staten Island who was pitching a script, a guy who wanted to know how to make film prints in his bathtub so he could save money on his “five million dollar budgeted films”, and the writer of a letter who wanted someone to make a film about his life because, as his scribbled pencil handwriting clearly stated, “I am an God,” who possesses “fifty points of appointing power.” While fielding these random inquiries I learned a whole lot about where answers can be found and also how many oddballs there are out there who managed to somehow get AIVF’s phone number and address. After AIVF I jumped over to the indieWIRE team full-time, but not as a newcomer, as I’ve worked with them in Park City, Utah on their coverage of the past three Sundance Film Festivals.

I also make short films with my brother Jeff under Back and Forth Films, which is named after a low budget super 8 short film we made a few years ago that has screened all over the place, including a one month gig on a giant outdoor video screen in Times Square. We have several projects in the works, including a feature screenplay called FIVE BOROUGHS, which is five intertwining stories that take place in NYC and a super 8 short called UP AND DOWN, which features musician and actress Rebecca Moore.

I’m going to use this blog to post information about films I’ve recently seen and also what is going on with Back and Forth Films. I may add more categories as this progresses. We’ll see what happens!
