Festivals Never Really Stop

Today I ordered my tickets for various screenings and panels I plan to attend at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. I’ll primarily be watching shorts and a few features, but most of the features screening already played my festival in March or aren’t helpful to me as a programmer (we try to program features that have been recently completed by the time of our festival and not screening at other festivals as much as a year in advance). But you never know. I certainly would program a feature that blew me away enough. Regardless, it will be great to get back to NYC and touch base with people. It’s also fun to attend Tribeca because one of the head programmers there actually hired me as her intern at SXSW when she ran the programming here back in the day…

Meanwhile, Austin continues to thrive as a film festival community. Starting tomorrow is the Cinema Asia Film Festival (www.cinemaasiaaustin.org) and next week is the Cine Las Americas Film Festival (www.cinelasamericas.org). The festival vibe never really lets up in Austin, and you won’t hear me complaining at all…

The only thing odd to me about John and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos announcing the end of their marriage yesterday is the fact that they attended our festival four weeks ago and seemed as close-knit as ever. That just seems odd. Rebecca came to SXSW to support her soon-to-be ex-husband and his two films screening at the festival. The split must be pretty peaceful…
