'Fahrenheit' To Be Bootlegged?

With news this week that Disney plans to “dump” Michael Moore’s new, anti-Bush documentary comes the news that international distributors are already on their way to releasing the film overseas. In other words, there is a possibility that Fahrenheit 9/11 will be released internationally before it is seen in America. If the MPAA is really concerned about stamping out global cinema piracy, this needs to not happen. With the incredible anticipation and demand for Moore’s film stateside (especially in light of the recent controversy), Fahrenheit 9/11 stands to become the most sought-after bootleg American film in recent memory.
Therefore, if any other company (Lions Gate, maybe? Think Dogma and not O) plans to pick the film up, they should do so immediately to prevent a severe cut in box office once it finally winds its way into American theaters. I have no doubt that Fahrenheit 9/11 will be seen by Americans before the presidential election. The only question is whether this will be on an iBook or in a Regal theater, or whether a studio and Moore will see the profits, or some film pirate in another country…
