I caught The Woodsman last night, while it was screening as part of the Austin Film Festival. While Kevin Bacon is great and the real star of the film, it’s worth mentioning that – in his small role as a cop – Mos Def is really stunning. He’s just graceful to watch, and it’s really impressive to see this hip-hop MC further an already acclaimed acting career. Meanwhile, he has a new solo album on the way to record stores. I can’t wait for future acting roles, though.
After the movie I ran over to the Driskill Hotel Bar, which is where the screenwriters of the Austin Film Festival hang out late-night. I wasn’t there to have drinks with Shane Black (who is always about), I was there to see my old friend Ngoc. Ngoc and I used to work at SXSW together before she moved to L.A. to work at Miramax and now works at CAA. Ngoc is who I’m staying with when I go to L.A. in three weeks. I just recently broke the news that I’ll be staying in L.A. for about 10 days. Thankfully, Ngoc really is a friend, because she’s not kicking me over to a hotel… yet.
