Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

Five New Albums Worth Your Dime

1. Handsome Boy Modeling School, White People (A great sophomore effort from this hip-hop/indie-rock collective lead by Prince Paul and Dan the Automator. Much better than their debut. And where else can you find new music by De La Soul, Mars Volta, Cat Power, the RZA, Del, Pharrell, and more on one CD?)

2. The Magnetic Fields, i (A solid, folky return from the masters of unrequited indie gloom and pop. “I Thought You Were My Boyfriend” is a classic, classic love song.)

3. Midnight Movies, Midnight Movies (Great, atmospheric art-rock. Like Blonde Redhead, but sexier. Like Lush, but spacier.)

4. Pete Yorn, Live from New Jersey (He’s still one of the more underrated of the nu-troubadours. This live set shows why he’s a great talent. Anyone who covers both Springsteen and The Smiths in concert can’t be hard to love.)

5. Robyn Hitchcock, Spooked (A nice return from the former Soft Boys leader. His solo work doesn’t work for everyone, but it works for me.)
