A couple of weeks ago, I was contacted by the Austin chapter of the American Marketing Association. They were looking to have a representative from the SXSW Film Festival to speak at their monthly meeting, which will be tomorrow. More details right here.
I’m set, it’ll be fine, I’ve done these guest speaker kinda things a lot already. The difference this time? People are buying tickets… Sure, sounds good. It costs $40 for non-members (and $25, for you members out there) to come to the luncheon. And what will your money get you? Me. Me speaking for 40 minutes (a dollar a minute!).
Upon hearing about this, my reliable so-called friends have offered responses such as:
“I’ve heard you talk for 40 minutes, and I think you should pay me $40.”
“For $40, they get your talk and lunch? They better be getting steak.”
