I’m tired, and it’s my own fault. I’m on my way out to our annual SXSW volunteer appreciation party at Emo’s. It will be my third time at Emo’s in the last three days… you could say I’m on track to spend all of April at the popular Austin punk club, except this should be the last day in a while.
Friday night was spent checking out a so-so Sparta show with some friends. Saturday was spent being wowed by an amazing set from The Decemberists, with some different friends. I tell you, pick up that new Decemberists album and then catch their current live show, it’s great. They’ve added former That Dog violinist/vocalist Petra Haden to the fold, and her presence is spectacular. Not to mention, the new songs are really punchy, and could possibly give the band its greatest mainstream appeal ever.
I was so taken by the concert that I stayed out late. How late? Later than anyone should, considering that the concert didn’t start until close to midnight, and meanwhile I had a 10K race to be awake for this morning… Add to the mix that last night we all sprung forward in time, and you don’t get much sleep and a lot of bodliy strain all rolled into one. So, as I plot my Sunday return to Emo’s, my legs are about to fall off.
