Katrina… and the waves

Katrina... and the waves

Okay, is it just me, or does it seem really inappropriate to name this latest hurricane, “Katrina?” This thing is about to hit New Orleans and do some serious damage. It’s gonna be devastating. Thousands of people are evacuating, thousands of people are going to take refuge in the Superdome. The mayor of New Orleans has told folks to look around at the city’s monuments and buildings and realize they may not be around when this whole thing is over… and it’s called “Katrina.”

Let’s not forget that arguably the most famous “Katrina” prior to this hurricane was from a band that produced one of the biggest hits of the 1980s, a song called “Walkin’ on Sunshine.” The band’s full name, of course, was Katrina and The Waves. Katrina… and the waves. Once again, I submit for your approval, is that really a good idea to name a hurricane “Katrina?” I vote no.

Yes, I find Hurricane Katrina to be an odd name for such a disaster. Although, all the hurricane names urk me a bit. Hurricane Dennis? Hurricane Katrina should “Hurricane Say Bye Bye to New Orleans” or “Hurricane Pack up your shit and Leave”. oh well.
