The city of Austin is alive tonight. With a nail-biter of four quarters of college football, the University of Texas Longhorns beat the USC Trojans in tonight’s Rose Bowl, clutching the National Championship title. Both teams played a great game, with wunderkind and Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush of the Trojans trying to outwit Heisman contender Vince Young of the Longhorns. Ultimately, though, it would be Young delivering the winning touchdown in a powerful drive, with under a minute to go. Final score was a breathtaking 41-38. Myself and many local friends found various spots to watch the game. Some of the SXSW gang went with Tambaleo in downtown Austin:
(Decked out in burnt orange, fans gather inside Tambaleo to watch as the Longhorns started things off with a decent lead. Soon, though, it would become USC’s game.)
(This is soon after Vince Young brought the score up to UT 39, USC 38. My SXSW colleagues Jarod, left, and Hugh, right, are in a good mood. Photo by some guy.)
(Photo taken just as the bar – and the world – learns that UT is the new National Champions.)
Now, back at my apartment, I can still hear car horns honking and people cheering from miles around.
