Sundance 2006.6: Return to Hot Chicken

Sundance 2006.6: Return to Hot Chicken

I’m back from the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. It was a mad, busy time. Lots of meetings and more meetings. Some screenings, a few parties. It was a mad, busy time. But now, I’m back in Austin as we gear up for our own 2006 festival in March. Here are some photos to end this year’s chapter of Sundance:

sunCONDO.jpg
(One of the fun condo parties this year was a soiree hosted by Shooting People and Rooftop Films. Here’s BritDoc’s Maxyne Franklin and Channel 4’s Katie Speight with True/False Fest’s David Wilson, on the makeshift dancefloor/den. Once the hired DJ went home, Scott Beiben of Ann Arbor Film Festival began DJing from his iBook.)

sunBUS.jpg
(A popular sight during Sundance: the view from inside a theater shuttle bus. Exciting.)

sunWINNIE.jpg
(My pal Winnie Lau from Fortissimo Films, getting ready to leave the intimate This Film Is Not Yet Rated party hosted by IFC TV.)

sunPRODUCERS.jpg
(A producers’ circle, at the Film Not Yet Rated shindig. Allen Bain, left, and Jesse Scolaro – of the 7th Floor – flank Lily Bright, producer of The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things. This was one of the few recent years that the 7th Floor, best known for features such as Manito and Room, did not have a new project for Sundance.)

sunSARASOTA.jpg
(Fellow iW blogger and Sarasota Film Festival programmer Tom Hall, center, sits with his co-worker Jody Kielbasa, right, and IFC’s Elektra Gray during the Films Is Not Yet Rated party.)

sunROGERJOSH.jpg
(Notable film reps Roger Kass, left, and Josh Braun chill out at the cozy Cinetic Media party at Zoom on Monday evening.)

sunELMAROB.jpg
(Also at the Cinetic party are buyers Elma Cremin of Lime TV and Rob Williams of Wellspring.)

sunKEVIN.jpg
(At a really nice BMI condo party, director Kevin Everson hangs in-between rep Sarah Jo Marks, left, and co-producer Madeleine Molyneaux. Kevin’s new feature, Cinnamon, is in the festival’s Frontier program. A few years ago, Kevin also won a SXSW special jury award for his experimental short, Thermostat.

sunTROYMORGAN.jpg
(Back at the Cinetic party, here I am with MTV Films’ Troy Poon and Super Size Me director/star Morgan Spurlock. We’re making faces – saying “Oprah” – because our photog, Eugene Hernandez, mentioned Spurlock would be on her show this week. Respect.)
