I’m going south by southeast (har, har) to attend the Florida Film Festival. Matthew, Shannon, and the fine folks in Orlando have invited me to participate on a panel called “Austin Comes to Orlando.” Here’s how it is described on the official festival Web site:
Music, film, digital media, high technology, education, tourism. Sound familiar? These words could describe life in Austin or Orlando. Join SXSW Film Programmer, Matt Dentler and other Texans as we compare and contrast our fair cities. Both enjoy an enthusiastic and diverse community, while striving to manage rapid growth and create a unique identity in the larger landscape of America. But what does the future hold culturally, technologically, socio-economically? As Orlando strives to find the balance between tourism and technology and Austin attempts to keep Austin weird, we might be able to learn a thing or two from each other.
The panel is on Thursday morning, 10:30 a.m., at the Enzian Theater. Come on down, if you’re around. I’m looking forward to attending a festival that I’ve always heard terrific things about. Plus, while I’ve been to Florida, I’ve never been to Orlando. It should be fun to check out the Florida film scene and check-in with some new and old friends that will be at the festival: Marisa from Wellspring, get those Bon Jovi records ready!
