New to Blogging forum, I wanted to begin by first entry by saying how valuable I’ve found this section of Indiewire. With daily reports and opinions from voices all around the country engaged in indiefilm, from programmers and producers, to critics and filmmakers, this section of my daily IndieWire fix never fails to grab my attention. I find myself eager to reply (as I have on occastion) to posts, keen to extend the dialogue or grapple with a particular point. I’ve also come to feel like I actually know many of the contributors. I’ve lived vicariously through a filmmaker’s traumatic post production experience and the subsequent revlatation of premiereing his film at an international festival. I’ve downloaded an album (or two) worth my dime. I even approached a Blogger on a shuttle in Park City like we were fast friends, before realizing I only knew him from his Blog.
With that in mind, I wanted to join in.
In the spirit of appearing both pretentious, and ironically self-mocking, I wanted to quote from Charles Foster Kane who insisted upon printing, on the front page of his first edition as Editor in Chief of the New York Inquirer:
“I’ll provide the people of this city with a daily paper that will tell all the news honestly.
I will also provide them … the true news – quickly and simply and entertainingly.
And no special interests will be allowed to interfere with the truth of that news.”
We all know how well this promise turned out for him.
I look forward to joining the dialogue. It might be fun to write a Blog.
