Rebuking Gov't, Koreans Preserve Quota

Rebuking the Korean government’s decision to cut its screen quota in order to favor more Hollywood productions, a chain of big-name Korean movie theaters have announced they will retain the quota, reports Screen Daily. One exhibition chief said: “The theatre industry has resolved to maintain the quota irregardless of government plans.” About 60% of theaters will observe the quota, according to the story, which requires Korean cinemas to show local films for 146 days a year. (The proposed government reduction would cut the quota to 73 days.) In the first quarter, score: Hollywood 0; foreign films 1.
