Village Voice Picks Pics

While the Village Voice’s film section continues to grapple with their new corporate owners, one can seek solace in their annual best of the year exhibition series, a mix of woefully underseen and undistributed cinematic wonders running at BAMcinematek starting on April 6. The series affords cinephiles, in many cases, the last chance to see these titles ever on a large screen.

This year’s slate features Masahiro Kobayashi’s “Bashing,” Andrew Bujalski’s two features “Funny Ha Ha” and “Mutual Appreciation,” Claire Denis’s “The Intruder,” Aleksandr Sokurov’s “The Sun,” Robert LePage’s “The Far Side of the Moon,” a special subversive combo of George Romero’s “Land of the Dead” and Joe Dante’s “Homecoming,” Tsai Ming-liang’s “The Wayward Cloud,” Bong Joon-ho ‘s “Memories of Murder,” two from Hou Hsiao-hsien (“Cafe Lumiere” and “Three Times”), Seijun Suzuki’s “Princess Raccoon,” and John Hillcoat’s “The Proposition.”
