Tonight’s finale of the spring season of Stranger than Fiction, the new documentary series at New York’s IFC Center, will unveil a new version of the IFC production “This Film is Not Yet Rated,” Kirby Dick’s expose of the Motion Picture Association of America’s ratings board. The film premiered at Sundance, but according to organizers, Dick (the lauded director of Sick, Derrida and Twist of Faith) added some interviews that strengthens his case against the hypocritical and studio-biased organization. A Q&A with director Dick and producer Eddie Schmidt will follow the screening.
Stranger than Fiction head Thom Powers says the fact that the series’ opening (Fabulous: The Story of Queer Cinema) and closing night films were both IFC productions is mere happenstance. But I still wonder if there is some quid pro quo going on?
