‘Puffy,’ ‘Cavite’ Get Advanced

'Puffy,' 'Cavite' Get Advanced

Two of the most popular films at SXSW 2005, The Puffy Chair and Cavite, will be opening in theaters in just a few short weeks. And, to prime audiences and spread word-of-mouth, both films will have advance-screening events just around the corner:

Cavite, winner of a special jury prize at SXSW as well as an Independent Spirit Award, will have a Cinematical-sponsored, FREE screening in New York on Monday, May 15 ahead of the film’s NYC/L.A. opening on May 26. Filmmakers Ian Gamazon and Neill Dela Lana will be on hand with Karina Longworth for a Q&A. Make sure to check it out! And while you’re at it, visit the Cavite MySpace page.

The Puffy Chair, winner of an audience award at SXSW and nominated for that same Independent Spirit Award, will open nationally on June 2. Days before, though, the Duplass brothers will be in Austin for a couple of cool advance-screening evenings. On May 31, Screen Door Film will host a special screening of, and panel about, The Puffy Chair at St. Edward’s University in Austin. On June 1, the Austin Film Society will host a special screening for its “filmmaker level” members. And then, when the film opens on June 2 around the country, director Jay Duplass will be attending screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown for Q&A’s. Until then, check out the Puffy Chair MySpace page.
