A new documentary even more numbing and frightening than the excellent “An Inconvenient Truth” is Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack’s “Crude Awakening” (formerly titled, “Oilcrash”). The film, which had people buzzing after its SXSW debut in March, screened in a slightly revamped edition today in Manhattan, with a few buyers and a number of grassroots organization members in attendance. Its a sometimes shocking exploration of the “peak oil crisis” to come.

From an official description: “The film visits with the world’s top experts and comes to a startling, but logical conclusion – our industrial society, built on cheap and readily available oil, must be completely re-imagined and overhauled.” An overwhelming schedule this week prevents me from writing much more about it right now, but for more information, check out the film’s website.
