Film news is never hard to find when attending international festivals. There are copies of Screen International everywhere here in Oxford, as well as plenty of updates coming from usual suspects like Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, indieWIRE, etc. online. But, what is tough is the world of sports, pop music, and celebrity gossip. Because, unlike the film business, in the U.K. these are very different industries altogether. Especially celeb gossip. I’ve endured countless tales in the last few days about random famous people I’ve never heard of, and won’t ever care about. Some footballer’s girlfriend? Great. Some Brit reality TV star? Wonderful. Give me my trashy American pop culture fix… please.
Thanks to the good people at DListed and The Superficial, I’m still able to keep on top of things. Speaking of staying on top of things, Lance Bass is gay? I always thought his big-screen romantic role opposite Entourage‘s Emmanuelle Chriqui, in 2001 disaster-flop On the Line, was a bit flat. But apparently he’s just an even worse actor than we thought… but who knew? And more importantly, who cares? Carmen Electra dating Jamie Foxx? Josh Duhamel done with Fergie? News like this keeps me mindful of what gossip I’m missing back home. Who knows, maybe I’ll run into Jordan and her family while out here… but I doubt it (especially if Michael K. couldn’t manage the same recently). At least I’m not missing American football or basketball season. That’s what Sundance is for.
