I caught Pan’s Labyrinth at Cannes back in May, and loved it. Former Austin resident Guillermo del Toro has crafted his masterpiece, a chilling fairy tale-meets-historical drama that is very, very violent and at moments truly dark. Will audiences respond to a film that is a real hyrbid of fantasy and wartime drama? I hope so, because in the end, it’s a powerful film and Guillermo did a bang-up job. According to Anne Thompson’s blog, it seems like U.S. distributor Picturehouse is pushing the film hard (and in all the right ways) at Comic Con right now. Keep your eyes open for Pan’s Labyrinth, either at festivals or when it opens in late December.
