Pitchfork: Albarn Keeps Busy

I think time will tell that Damon Albarn is probably one of the most underrated geniuses in music these days. And I’m not just talking about the sublime perfection that is his band Blur’s album Parklife. Perhaps one of his greatest achievements is a collection of African recordings he made a few years back, entitled Mali Music. Check it out. The Blur frontman is spending his band’s hiatus (Graham Coxon, come home) not only masterminding Gorillaz, but Pitchfork reports that he’s currently working on a Danger Mouse-produced solo album, as well as forming a new band with members of The Clash and Verve:

The unnnamed band “will release their first single in October, with an album, The Good the Bad and the Queen following in January 2007 on Parlophone/EMI. The disc, a concept record focusing on life in London, has already been completed. The band are expected to make live appearance number one in October as well.”
