In The New York Times, Lynn Hirschberg profiles filmmaker Michel Gondry, director of the upcoming “The Science of Sleep“:

Much of Gondry’s work is peculiarly autobiographical in a nonliteral way. His films, and even the videos he has directed for musicians like Bjork and the White Stripes, capture the emotions that swirl around personal events in his life. Some of these feelings are evoked in “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” in which the protagonists, two former lovers, scrub their memory banks in order to forget each other. In “The Science of Sleep,” which Gondry wrote as well as directed, the central character, Stephane, who is played by Gael Garcia Bernal, is much like Gondry: he is passionate and awkward and expresses himself through all sorts of visualizations.
