Monday morning, everyone is chatting about how Ashton Kutcher is the king of the box office, simply because he’s prominently featured in the number one (Open Season) and two (The Guardian) films from this weekend. C’mon. Nothing against Kutcher, but were either one of these releases even considered an “Ashton Kutcher movie” before they opened? Not really. Open Season is animated, for starters, and The Guardian has more to do with (I can’t believe I’m gonna say this) Kevin Costner, than anyone else.
If this kind of spin holds water, then why stop there? Maybe the credit is really due to Seann William Scott. I mean, after all, he co-starred with Kutcher, in Dude, Where’s My Car? and co-starred with Johnny Knoxville (the star of last weekend’s number one movie, Jackass: Number Two) in Dukes of Hazzard. I guess, he’s got the juice needed to be number one at the box office. Puhleez. Or, maybe millions of Paul Westerberg fans wanted to hear his original score for Open Season? Maybe Paul Westerberg is the king of the box office.
