Woody Allen x 28 = Holiday Heaven

Woody Allen x 28 = Holiday Heaven

As strong as the classic film series scene can be in Austin, there’s nothing like New York. And, there would be no better place for an extensive, exhaustive retrospective of Manhattan native Woody Allen’s work. I’m a lifelong Woody fan, even finding a soft spot in my heart for such recent, noble “misses” as Scoop and Melinda and Melinda. While his canon can be somewhat repetitive in tone, he’s still a wonderfully eclectic artist. You really can’t go wrong watching Hannah and Her Sisters with Husbands and Wives, or Sleeper with Bananas. These are only two of the double-features screening at New York’s Film Forum from December 22 to January 11. It’s a pretty wonderful collection of twofers, while arguably two of his greatest accomplishments to date (Manhattan and Annie Hall) get their own nights. To honor the occasion, The Reeler has published a long list of sentimental quotes from New York staples such as Harvey Weinstein, Ed Koch, Elaine Kaufman, and more.
