Afghan Bombing Injures Crew on Samira Makhmalbaf's Latest

Just when you thought it was safe to shoot in Afghanistan…. from news reports over the weekend: A bomb explosion last week on the set of Iranian director Samira Makhmalbaf’s new film “Two Legged Horse” killed a horse and injured six actors, along with crew members and extras. The production was filming a scene in Sarepol City, Afghanistan. Both the explosion and the bomber himself were caught on film, reports Variety. “No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but security forces are treating it as an attempt on the lives of the Makhmalbaf family, who have been the target of four previous attacks.” Production has been halted indefinitely.

Terrible news… I love Samira’s films and this is just terrible. My best wishes to the crew, cast and everyone involved. I hope we see her finish this film and overcome this ridiculous attempt at silencing a wonderful artist. What a shit world we live in. — Tom
