Salma Hayek‘s new Ventanazul label, a company she is creating with Jose Tamez, has signed a deal with MGM to develop, produce and acquire new projects with Latin themes and/or featuring Latin talent both in front of and behind the camera. MGM will finance projects along with outside investors, planning to release 2 – 4 projects per year, according to an announcement today. Hayek and MGM COO Rick Sands said in the announcement that the slate will include a wide range of work, from dramas, comedies, thrillers, and horror films to youth market movies, family movies and prestige films.
In a statement, Hayek said that she has been developing a new company that, “specializes in the Latino market without isolating the rest of the audience. I’m confident to say that with the help and support of MGM, Ventanazul has a specific vision that sets it apart from some of the stereotypical efforts made in the past.” She added in the statement, “What’s important to us is integrating, not separating. This deal represents an amazing opportunity to draw upon the entire range of ways the Latin world can contribute to the film industry.” [Eugene Hernandez]
