Belgium-based production, financing, distribution and international sales company Corsan announced that it is teaming up with Indian production company Neelmudra Entertainment to produce the epic romantic adventure “Singularity.” Golden Palm winner Ronald Joffe (“The Killing Fields“) will direct and popular Indian actress Aishwarya Rai (“Bride and Prejudice“) stars. Corson CEO Paul Breuls and Neelmudra Chairman Ajey Jhankar are producing in their first collaboration.
“We have always believed in this ambitious dream project,” said Jhankar. “We are confident Roland will be at his creative best in this sweeping story, a genre for which [he] is known as the master.” The film follows a British officer in 1780s India who falls in love with Tulaja (Rai), a young Indian palace guard.
Additional casting is underway and shooting is slated to begin in January in India and South Africa. The film is budgeted at $35 million. [Peter Knegt]
