DocFactory, the new documentary film production company founded to champion and produce films focusing on world issues, has announced their second project, “News For Sale.” “Sale” presents the state of American news media industry, expressing a drastic need for reform. Rules for media ownership have already been relaxed over the years, but corporations continue to lobby for more media outlets to be controlled by a few large companies. “Sale” tracks this lobbying, utilizing digital technology to examine its effects on local communities.
Formed as a collective under DocFactory, filmmakers Gary Graham, Dan Cantagallo, and Jean-Phillippe Tremblay are the team behind “Sale.” The film is the first project developed by DocFactory from conception to production and (eventually) distribution. It is due for completion by the end of 2007. DocFactory’s first film, the coffee trade doc “Black Gold,” was released to critical acclaim earlier this year. [Peter Knegt]
