Austin-based documentary filmmakers Ellen Spiro and Karen Bernstein (Troop 1500) have kept me in the loop for almost a year, regarding their latest project, Body of War. What has always set this documentary (which I have still seen none of) apart from other Iraq war films, starts with Ellen’s co-director: former TV host Phil Donahue. Anyway, when I was visiting Karen (the film’s producer) in Marfa recently, she indicated that the whole world will get a chance to finally see this long-in-the-works documentary reatively soon. As the buzz builds, Steve Zeitchik checks in for Variety, with news about the film. Included in that: word about Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder composing the score. I’m also thrilled that we’ll have some more Austin filmmakers on the festival circuit soon.
