My Weekend MP3s: Perry Farrell, Bonde do Role, The Wombats, The Early Years.

Time to get started on that weekend, which puts us just about in the middle of Summer 2007. So, to celebrate, I’ve got a handful of different new sounds for you to choose from (sequenced in my preferred order for maximum enjoyment):

-Perry Farrell has a new band (called “Satellite Party”) and a not-so-new sound, but if you listen to lead single “Wish Upon a Dog Star,” you’ll forgive him. And, yes, that is New Order’s Peter Hook on bass.

– Brazil’s party-funk/hip-hop trio, Bonde do Role, will get any celebration started. Trust me. Check out “Solta O Frango” and hear what I mean.

– The Wombats may be one of the best-kept secrets out of Liverpool, in some time. Their “Backfire at the Disco” is just one of many fire-starting rock songs they have in their canon.

– This isn’t anything immediately new from U.K. buzz band, The Early Years, but “All Ones and Zeros” is a tasty slice of the Joy Division-meets-Gang of Four sound that makes their latest LP such a pleasure.
