iW NEWS | Edinburgh Fest Moves to June for '08 Edition

In a significant shift for the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the event announced it will leave its traditional August slot and will host its 62nd edition in June. Next year’s fest will take place June 18 – 29. EIFF describes the move as a “main catalyst for change for the festival’s next 60 years, driving forward an invigorated strategy for future growth.” The new time slot is also viewed as an opportunity to “raise the profile of both the festival itself and the films showcased.” “Logistically, a June event is better placed in the ever-crowded international film festival calendar,” commented EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill in a statement. “Of course our own sources for program content will shift accordingly, but that in itself provides an exciting opportunity for the programming team to explore new hunting grounds. Moreover, in the less crowded context of our new June dates, we will be better placed to attract the maximum status and publicity for the films that we show.” This year’s Edinburgh Film Fest takes place in the Scottish capital August 15 – 26.
