“A Conversation with Moby” @ SXSW 2008

"A Conversation with Moby" @ SXSW 2008

It all kinda began at Harry Knowles’ wedding, believe it or not. During the reception, filmmaker Richard Kelly and I were talking about how much we loved Moby’s song, “Memory Gospel,” which features prominently in his upcoming film, Southland Tales. From there, we started talking about Moby’s abilities as a composer (he did the whole score for said film) and also the extensive use of his songs in TV and film (Michael Mann seldom goes without a Moby track or two, for example).

Then, I read and blogged about “moby gratis,” the musician’s new endeavor to give some of his music to filmmakers… for free. Very soon after that, I noticed Moby was sitting on a panel at the IFP Filmmaker Conference. I thought, “well it appears he’s into speaking about his music in a film-centric setting.” A few days later, with the outstanding help of Doreen Ringer-Ross at BMI, we had ourselves “A Conversation with Moby” scheduled to take place at SXSW Film 2008, on Tuesday, March 11. Be there!
