Emerging Visions Class of 2007: Curt Ellis ('King Corn')

I’ve asked the filmmakers from the SXSW 2007 “Emerging Visions” section to give us all an update on their projects. Keep an eye out for more updates to come. Today, we have Curt Ellis, the co-producer and subject of Aaron Woolf’s eco-minded documentary King Corn:

We really appreciate your support, and have been so happy about what’s happened since we showed up at SXSW. As you suspected, King Corn is being released this fall by Balcony Releasing. We’re excited to see so much interest in the film, and are doing our best to make the most of the momentum. Selected dates are as follows:

New York – Cinema Village, opening October 12
Columbia, Missouri – Ragtag Cinema opening October 13
Washington DC – E Street Cinema, opening October 19
Boston – Coolidge Corner Theater, opening October 19
Los Angeles Laemmle’s Music Hall Beverly Hills, opening October 26
San Francisco – Red Vic Movie House, opening November 2
Berkeley – Shattuck Theater, opening November 2
Portland – Hollywood Theater, opening November 9
St. Louis – Tivoli Theatre, opening December 7

King Corn has also been nominated for the Environmental Media Awards, to be held in Los Angeles October 24. We’re doing a good number of university screenings this fall, are planning events on Capitol Hill around the Farm Bill. Our outreach efforts will begin in earnest with a screenings tour in the Corn Belt late this winter, and will expand with the Independent Lens Community Cinema series. Our PBS broadcast is slated for April.
