'Halloween' Lesson Learned?

With news that Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake will now break Labor Day weekend box office records, it appears that the R-rated horror genre is not in danger of extermination. Earlier this summer, disappointing returns for Hostel Part II, Captivity, and 28 Weeks Later (and strong numbers for PG-13 rated 1408, Disturbia, etc.) had some expecting youth-oriented horror killing off adult fare. While you can probably expect an increase in PG-13 horror flicks for the future, at least Hollywood can rest assured that R-rated horror is still worth the risk from time to time. It’s also worth noting that, of the five films I just mentioned, the PG-13 offerings received the best reviews…
