John Malkovich could be the next Brad Pitt

Now, what I mean by that is, actor John Malkovich is one of the four key producers on the film Juno (it’s true, look it up). But, due to the Oscars’ recent producer-nominee regulations, he is not nominated for an Oscar along with the other producers: Lianne Halfon, Mason Novick and Russell Smith. The Academy infamously limited the number of “Best Picture” nominees to no more than three per film, which means that if Juno wins Best Picture (hey it could happened), Malkovich doesn’t get an Oscar. And, he’s never won an Oscar.

The same thing happened to Brad Pitt last year with The Departed, and that film won its Best Picture Oscar. The actor, who has also never won an Academy Award, was deemed ineligible to be one of the nominated producers on the film. Had he pursued the nomination (which he didn’t), he might now be “Oscar Winner Brad Pitt.” For anyone thinking that a thespian should win an acting Oscar before any others: don’t forget that Michael Douglas won the first of his two Oscars not for acting, but for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Then, of course, there are Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The latter of which, has yet to even be nominated in an acting category, but already has his statue for co-writing Good Will Hunting.
