Mommie… Dearest?

Mommie... Dearest?

Charlotte Chandler’s recent Vanity Fair article on the new revision of Joan Crawford’s parenting skills, is one of those great Vanity Fair pieces. Was she really the tyrannical and abusive mother that has been so ingrained in our culture after the publishing of her daughter’s memoir, Mommie Dearest? Is there another side to the story? I mentioned this article to someone over the weekend, and they replied with what I think is a pretty smart analysis: “I don’t like Mommie Dearest because I think it’s true. I like it because it’s hilarious trash.”
