Get to All Points West early, for Lowry

The All Points West Festival has announced its schedule for performances this weekend. One of the first scheduled performers of the event is Lowry, and allow me to take this opportunity to suggest you get there early (1:30 p.m.) to see them. This Brooklyn-band band released Awful Joy in 2005, one of the most underrated indie-rock records in recent years. The band’s sound is kinda like Wilco or Whiskeytown or Grandaddy, if they were fronted by J. Mascis. The band’s next album, Love Is Dead, will be released in the Fall and you can stream a couple of tracks on their MySpace page now. Listen to “Jukebox Heart” on that page, and try not to be moved. The band’s trademark arrangement is splitting two melodies in one song, and ending most of their tunes with epic assaults of pop. Check them out.
