Kevin Smith Launches Independent Film Week

(Zack and Miri Make a Porno writer/director Kevin Smith headlined the first day of this year’s Independent Film Week, hosted by IFP, on Sunday evening. The filmmaker first attended the IFP Market 15 years ago, with his debut feature, Clerks. During his keynote speech, Smith gave his dry advice that “The only way I know how to make it in the industry is to make Clerks, so go do that.” Plus, when it comes to being called an “indie auteur,” he countered that “I’ve only made one independent film and now I’m always called ‘an independent filmmaker.’ It’s like if you suck one dick, you’re always called ‘gay.’ Maybe I was just being exploratory.”)
