Another night, another terrific dinner. Sony Classics on Sunday, IFC Films on Monday, the two companies responsible for the majority of the foreign and indie features being released theatrically these days. I think each has about eight or nine films here at TIFF.
Last night, I sat alongside “Summer Hours” director Olivier Assayas (left), “A Christmas Tale” director Arnaud Desplechin (center, left), and NYT critic AO Scott (right). “Tony,” as he introduces himself and is commonly known, and I talked a bit about the recent twin Sunday pieces about the state of independent film that he and Manohla Dargis wrote for the paper. Both are worth reading. Photos from the IFC and Sony dinners will continue to appear in our Toronto iPOP section throughout the week.
