A highlight trip of the fall is the annual October weekend in the Hamptons, catching movies at the UA in East Hampton, some good meals at Nick & Toni’s, La Fondita, and/or the Pork Store, and actually getting a good night of sleep at the comfy Huntting Inn. I realized last night, as the fest and indieWIRE were saluting Wouter Barendrecht, that this is my 14th Hamptons fest.
The event has shifted slightly over the years, in the early days it was quite casual. I recall meeting and hanging out with Soderbergh at a very casual fest party on an early trip. And then in later years, it took on a more hectic air chock full of an overwhelming roster of parties, panels and events. As I recall, Hummer was a sponsor one year? And publicists from New York would settle in to hype rosters of titles. Something about that was just too much for this off-season weekend event.
This year seems to strike a nice balance, with just enough parties to offer some socializing between the movies. But, the vibe this year suits and surroundings and is so casual that Alec Baldwin wandered into the Huntting Inn this morning without causing a major stir. Oh, and I met Bibi Andersson.
