Enzian’s annual celebration of the best in Florida (shorts) filmmaking, the Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase, concluded its 17th annual event with a local industry jury selecting 13 films to move on to the Florida Sidebar in this year’s Florida Film Festival (March 27 – April 5). The “Best of Brouhaha” was decided by local radio personality/author/photographer Katie Ball, Universal Studios Production Supervisor Jackie Maness Jr, and incoming Women in Film & Television President Robin Wright, and they’ve come up with an outstanding, diverse, and nicely balanced 96-minute program.
Two FilmSlam winners and four schools are represented among the 13 films: UCF, FSU, Full Sail University, and Ringling College of Art & Design. There are four narratives (two comedies–MY FOUR INCH PRECIOUS and WELCOME TO APARTMENT PLACE LANDINGS, and two dramas–WHAT LIES AHEAD and AFTER THE STORM); four docs (SAM RIVERS: JAZZ MASTER OF THE MOMENT, OVIEDO CHICKENS, NORMAL KIDS, and PEOPLE LIKE US); four funny and clever works of computer animation (ELEVATOR GERMS, THE VISIONARY, GOTCH ‘YA, and SNOW DAY); and a rap music video by WAX & EOM, THE ADVENTURES OF LARRY & TINA, for good measure.
Should any of the “winners” also get accepted for the American Independent Competition in the Florida Film Festival (a small possibility for a couple of titles), alternates have already been listed to take their place in the (non-competitive) Best of Brouhaha program. So congratulations to all of the filmmakers whose works were chosen–you can start making plans for late March now.
