Celebrating its 17th anniversary this weekend, the Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase hits the Enzian screen Saturday and Sunday for its annual celebration of Florida filmmaking. Founded nearly two decades ago by future “Blair Witch” producer Gregg Hale as a showcase exclusively for Florida’s growing number of indie and student filmmakers, Brouhaha also now serves as a source for the Florida Sidebar in the upcoming Florida Film Festival (March 27 – April 5, 2009). A jury of local industry professionals, including radio personality/author/photographer Katie Ball, Universal Studios Production Supervisor Jackie Maness Jr., and incoming Women in Film & Television President Robin Wright, will be in attendance for the four programs at 11 AM and 1:15 PM each day to determine a “Best of Brouhaha” collection to play in this year’s FFF.
49 films from 1 minute to 19 minutes in length, 8 schools represented, 9 FilmSlam winners, 4-inch nudes, Bigfoot, vampires, jazz legend Sam Rivers, free roaming chickens, contract killers, 3 music videos, Ringling animation, Miami Beach in the 50s, the fight to feed the homeless in Orlando, a spaghetti western homage, Hamburger Harry, a LEGO-vision zombie flick, and the one and only Rocket Baby are just some of the cinematic delights that await. Complete details are available at http://www.enzian.org/festivals/brouhaha.html And for a mere $5 a program, you can’t beat it, so come on out and show your support and encouragement of indie film in the sunshine state.
