iW NEWS | Mayor's Office and IFP Announce Inaugural NextGenNYC Grant

Commissioner Katherine Oliver of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting and IFP, the nation’s oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers, announced the first-ever recipient of NextGenNYC, an initiative that promotes emerging filmmakers graduating from CUNY. The recipient, Janis Vogel, a recent graduate of The City College of New York, received a cash prize of $5,000 for her short film “Drop.” “At the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, we are committed to promoting the next generation of promising filmmakers,” said Oliver in a statement. “NextGenNYC gives us the chance to reward the creativity of our City university students. As the independent film center, New York City is an ideal place to study filmmaking, and we’re thrilled to be able to provide this opportunity.” [Peter Knegt]
